Using Desktop Snapshots

Leveraging Desktop Snapshots

With snapshots, you can easily back up your virtual machine and restore it whenever needed.

For instance, before performing a risky system upgrade, you can halt your VM and capture a snapshot as a safety net.

After a successful upgrade, you can simply delete the snapshot; if something goes wrong, you can roll back to the machine's previous state.

Snapshots are supported across all DaDesktop configurations—Fresh Start, Trainer, Participant, and Standalone machines alike can benefit from this feature.

Keep in mind that restoring a snapshot will power down the machine, after which you'll need to restart it.

How to Create Snapshots

Selecting Snapshots

Below is an illustration of the snapshot creation process. Be sure to give it a clear, descriptive name so you can easily identify when it was captured.

In the following example, two snapshots represent different machine states. You can restore or delete them as needed.

Automating Desktop Snapshots

If you'd rather not rely on manual snapshots, automatic desktop snapshots let you schedule regular captures so you never miss a backup point.

You can configure how many snapshots to retain and set the interval at which new ones are taken.
