FAQs – DaDesktop for Training

1. Do Power BI and VBA sessions have access to Excel inside DaDesktop (DD)? (Given that they rely on MS Excel functions, this is a common query.)

  1. No, MS Office isn't included inside DaDesktop (which runs on Win10 & Win11 Pro). What you get is a DD virtual machine and a training room.
  2. Trainers should set up a free-trial account of MS Office for each delegate.
  3. Alternatively, delegates can use their personal MS Office accounts.

2. Is it possible to copy files from my local desktop to the DaDesktop machine?

  1. Yes, we’ve added a straightforward method for uploading files from your own machine to the DD Desktop. The only minor restriction is that you can transfer one file at a time for now. But you can easily create a zip archive containing all the needed files and then copy that single archive across to your DaDesktop machine.
  2. If you’re using a cloud storage service, be sure to sign out before cloning the desktop to all delegates.

3. Why does text in DD appear blurry, fuzzy, or even disappear?

  1. If you're on Chrome, head to "chrome://settings/system" and turn off the hardware acceleration setting.

4. Can trainers access the NobleProg wiki?

  1. No. According to the Terms and Conditions on the trainer registration page, trainers are not permitted to access the wiki.
  2. If you need to submit edits for the NobleProg wiki, just copy and paste the content into an email to the trainer (sending a PDF works too).

5. Which domains should we whitelist if we use a proxy or content filtering to improve connectivity?

Yes! Whitelist domains that match this pattern:

  1.              *.npg.io
  2.             https://dd4t.dadesktop.com

For further assistance, reach out to DaDesktop Support.

6. How can I run several desktops inside DD, for example during Ansible training?

  1. First, the trainer can configure DD resources (RAM, CPUs, and disk).
  2. Next, install Virt Manager or VirtualBox within DD to create multiple VMs, and establish networking between them.
  3. Once everything is configured, you can clone the setup to all delegates in mere seconds.
  4. Reach out to DaDesktop Support for any help.

7. What’s the server capacity?

  1. It depends on the underlying server hardware.
  2. For instance, 512GB RAM can be allocated as 512GB × 3.
  3. Each server can run with up to 250GB of disk space, 16 CPU threads per desktop, and customizable RAM settings.

8. Is it possible to download training recording videos?

  1. Yes, you can now download recordings by clicking the three dots on the right side of the video player.
  2. The video includes an audio track, provided you capture sound through the training room.

9. Which browser do you recommend for DD?

  1. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera all work flawlessly.
  2. Older browsers such as Internet Explorer aren’t fully supported.

10. What causes significant delays when using DaDesktop?

  1. Start by checking your network connection; DaDesktop performance hinges on your local internet speed.
  2. Check your server location: the coordinator always selects a server geographically close to participants in Brazil.
  3. Disable your VPN or switch it to PAC mode. Likewise, turn off any security software that might interfere with WebSocket connections, which are essential for a smooth DaDesktop experience.

11. What if WebSocket is blocked or unsupported by the network?

Remote Desktop access relies on WebSocket

  1. The blockage could be on your device. Look for settings or configurations that disable WebSocket. For instance, on some Chromebooks, if the proxy option 'Use the same proxy for all protocols' is enabled, WebSocket will fail (it ties the "SOCKS host" to a proxy). Uncheck that box and leave the "SOCKS host" field empty to resolve it.
  2. Alternatively, the issue might be with the network itself, not your device. In that case, contact your network administrator and ask them to unblock WebSocket.

12. What GPU support is available, for example for 3D apps?

  1. Check out our dedicated GPU support page for details.

13. Are there any known issues or things to watch out for?

  1. Using DaDesktop is generally just like working on a typical Windows or Linux computer. However, a handful of minor issues can crop up with certain software in a training setting, especially around machine cloning.

14. Do you support Mac-compatible programs or Mac emulation?

  1. No, we don’t support Mac-compatible applications or Mac emulation—primarily because of licensing constraints.
