Getting to Know Standalone Desktops
First off, what exactly is a Standalone Desktop in DaDesktop?
You'll find a handy guide to the various Desktop types here. But to put it simply, a Standalone desktop is a machine that isn't necessarily tied to a course. It operates independently, meaning you can use it before or after a course, or even entirely on its own without any course context.
This gives it a unique flexibility.
Common reasons to set up Standalone desktops:
- Preparing training materials you can use over and over, whether outside a course or whenever needed.
-
When you require a flexible machine with a different operating system (say Linux or Windows) to safely test out ideas.
Features:
- Shareable links grant full access to anyone with the link!
- If inactive, it powers down automatically after 24 hours.
Cost:
- Setting up a desktop doesn't cost anything.
- Starting up the desktop will incur charges.
- The cost varies based on units, determined by CPU, memory, and disk space. Windows instances cost extra.
- By enrolling in a course as a Student or Trainer, you receive free credits that can be applied to standalone desktops.
- If you don't access your standalone for more than a month, it will be deleted.
Usage Tip:
Type "clonefrom#" followed by a keyword to search for desktops cloned from matching originals.
